CANDIDATE QUESTIONNAIRE

PEKIN CITY COUNCIL

11. What are your thoughts on the completion of Veterans Drive all the way to I-474.

Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce: The City should continue to be the lead agency, working with Tazewell County, Marquette Heights, North Pekin and Creve Coeur, to advocate for the construction of Veterans Drive from Sheridan to Fisher Road, with an interchange at I-474. The City should use 2 cents from the local gas tax as a local match for state and federal funding of the construction.

Rick Hilst: Did not respond to the questionnaire.

Karen Hohimer: I have concerns about the completion of Veterans Dr. to 474 because it will cause potential tax dollars to bypass us. Cars will only leave the highway out of necessity, missing our community and all it has to offer.

John Abel: Veterans Drive must be completed to 474, the last 2 most expensive sections. This will bring more traffic and business to Pekin. Continue reminding our state and national legislators to find funding for the completion.

David Nutter: After Federal/State/Local studies and public hearings the Council can decide the funding feasibility of the Veterans Dr. extension.

Matthew T. Tucker (Tyler): To be honest I am not educated enough on the Veteran’s Drive Project.  I believe if it was important enough to start such a large project, it should be important enough to finish it.  I am not sure how the completion of this project into areas such as Groveland and East Peoria has anything to do with Pekin’s City Council.  I would imagine this is more of a question for Groveland and East Peoria.  I don’t believe we should be willing to help these communities complete their portion of the project without some future compensation.
