CANDIDATE QUESTIONNAIRE

PEKIN CITY COUNCIL

4. What is your vision for the community and how are you going to get us there?

Rick Hilst: Did not respond to the questionnaire.

Karen Hohimer: My vision for this community is to see downtown return to a thriving hub of business and pleasure. I think we need to find ways other than just TIF money to bring in business without hurting our financial bottom line. I like to think I'm an "out of the box" thinker.

John Abel: Improve our image. Tearing down buildings and houses that are beyond rehab. Continue to work with Habitat for Humanity etc. to bring new owner occupied housing and locally owned mom & pop businesses to Pekin.

David Nutter: 1) clean up the cities appearance
2) continued focus on the opioid epidemic
3) increase citizen involvement
Action plan:
1) prioritize street repair, weed control, code enforcement of empty property
2) reassess drug enforcement staffing and recommend change as needed
3) conduct town hall meetings.

Matthew T. Tucker (Tyler): See #3: Having been back in Pekin for the past 11 years, I have seen many areas in which we need to increase our pride in being a citizen of Pekin.  I want to se Pekin become a destination similar to Galina or Sandwich or many of the neighborhoods of Chicago which reminds me of Downtown Pekin.
