CANDIDATE QUESTIONNAIRE

PEKIN CITY COUNCIL

6. Do you support the city manager form of government? Why or why not?

Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce: Yes. The city is managed most effectively by a professional who is trained and skilled in day to day municipal government management.

Rick Hilst: Did not respond to the questionnaire.

Karen Hohimer: Yes and no. Yes, because the City Manager has the time to oversee all department heads in the city and acts accordingly. Unfortunately, candidates for City Manager are not "from" this community and don't have the "back story", which can be a positive or negative.

John Abel: Yes I support the city manager form of government. Our city manager is the CEO of a $61 million "business."

David Nutter: After reading and evaluating the pros and cons of both forms of governing a common denominator is required for both. EFFECTIVE PROACTIVE LEADERSHIP; without leadership neither system will be effective.

Matthew T. Tucker (Tyler): As long as the city manager is made aware, they are hired and fired at the will of the city mayor and council, this form of government can be effective.   Since the mayor and council are hired/elected by the citizens to act in the best interest of the city citizens, the city manager must know if their actions go against what the mayor and council feels is in the best interest of the citizens, they will be fired.
